Aaron Eugene Riggs was born March 17, 1944 in Rosiclare, IL to Noah F. and Veldine V. McDowell Riggs. He departed this life on May 3, 2018, at Hardin County General Hospital, whereupon he went to be with his Lord, being at the time of his death 74 years.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon Sue Porter on June 6, 1964. To this union two children were born: LeAndra (Mark) Austin of Buffalo, TX and Dana (Michael) Ledford of Princeton, IN.
Eugene acquired his family farm in 1967 where he and Sharon raised their family and hosted many family events. He loved raising cattle and spending time on his farm. Eugene earned his degree from ICS as a Master Electrician on June 30, 1977. He worked as an electrician most of his life retiring from Martin Marietta in 2007.
Eugene was saved at the age of 10 and has been a faithful member of Peters Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon on October 8, 10\972. He served as Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, and in various other rolls.
Left to mourn his passing include not only his wife, daughters and mother, but also two of his greatest blessings — his grandsons, Aaron and Zachary Ledford, both of Princeton, IN; his sister, Sharon Pennell; and an uncle, Gathel McDowell, both of Marion, IL, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death were his father, Noah F. Riggs; his grandparents, Manford and Mildred McDowell, and Henry and Sarah Edith Riggs.
He will be sadly missed and wonderfully remembered. “For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord” Acts 11:24.
Words cannot express the gratitude felt by our family during our time of sorrow. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Sunga and the entire staff at Hardin County General Hospital, Bro. Dean West, Bro. John Warren, Jan Goolsby and Billy Paul Ewell for the beautiful music, Valerie Holbrook and the Peters Creek Ladies for their inspiring songs, the pallbearers, Hardin County Funeral Services and to our Peters Creek Baptist Church Family for the delicious dinner prepared the day of the funeral.
We are truly overwhelmed by the flowers, cards of sympathy, visits, phone calls, food, donations to the Peters Creek Cemetery and the many prayers we have received.
We want you to know we appreciate you and all the love you have shown to our family during our time of loss.
May God bless you all.
