When is the Hardin County Independent available?
The Hardin County Independent is a weekly newspaper. Paper Day is on Thursday, however locals can purchase the newspaper in stores on Wednesday afternoons. The e-Edition is also available to customers on Wednesday afternoon with a reminder sent to their email address. The e-Edition is available on any internet browser (www.etownnewsillinois.com) – you do not have to access it by email. Subscribers’ papers are mailed out early Thursday morning.
What are the prices of advertisements and the deadline?
Deadline: Tuesdays at 9 a.m., but we always love to have your news and advertisements sooner. We print at Murray, KY on Tuesday evenings.
If you know that you cannot meet the deadline, call us and we might be able to arrange to save a spot for your ad/news placement.
To place an advertisement in the classified section, the first 20 words are $4.00 and each additional word is 10 cents. These type of ads are line ads with no borders, frames, or graphics.
Classified Display advertisements are $5 per column inch. These ads are placed on the Classified page. For example: A 2 column x 2 inch Classified ad would cost $20. This ad is about the size of a business card.
Regular Display Advertisements:
A regular Display Advertisement is considered an ad placed on any page besides the front page or classified page with a border and/or graphics. Regular display ads are $4.50 per column inch. These ads are offered in color with a small additional cost depending on the size of the ad.

Free Death Notices are available. It is very basic information with no story or personal details about the person’s life. The picture is still free.
How much does the Hardin County Independent cost?
You may purchase the Independent in local stores for $1 per copy.
You get 50 issues per year. We take 2 weeks off for vacation per year – once in the summer and once the last week of the year.
For subscribers in Hardin County: $33 per year.
For subscribers elsewhere: $35 per year
e-Edition (viewed on phone, mobile device, or computer): $28

Can I buy an Independent from weeks past?
Yes, we carry newspapers back to 2013. They sell for $1 per copy.
To view old newspapers, we have a microfilm machine, but no printer. You can view old newspapers, but would have to bring a camera or smart phone to take a picture with. You can email the picture to yourself and print it off somewhere else.
Also, the Rosiclare Library has a microfilm machine, but no printer. You can take a picture and email it to the library to be printed that day for a small fee. Call the library at 618-285-6213 for more information.
What is the e-Edition and its unique benefits?
The e-Edition is the exact copy of the Hardin County Independent but in digital form available on the internet as a subscription. It is vivid, clear, and has much more color than the actual newspaper.
Even though you receive an email reminder each week, it can be viewed on phones, tablets, mobile devices, and computers ANYWHERE you have an internet connection. To view your e-Edition anywhere, type in http://www.etownnewsillinois.com on the address bar of your internet browser.
It is available Wednesday afternoons around 4:30 p.m. – yes! the day before Paper Day! A wonderful feature of the e-Edition is that you may view all newspapers back to December of 2012. If you click the Archives button you can even type in a key word, topic, name, or date to bring up specific search results of all the newspapers back to 2012.
What is considered FREE in the newspaper?
News is free! Tell us what is going on. Send in births, deaths, anniversaries, special accomplishments, milestones, club news, church news, etc. Also, clubs or organizations asking for donations of food, clothing, toys, etc. (Soliciting donations of money is considered a paid ad.)
Ads are considered carrying a cost when you are congratulating someone, or sending a birthday or anniversary greeting, advertising anything where money changes hands or a fee is charged.
