County leaders along with school staff and students from Hardin County school gathered together at the school to commemorate a special birthday on Monday at 12 noon. Illinois turned 199 on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Each county throughout the state of Illinois held a flag raising ceremony to kick off a year long Bicentennial Celebration in preparation for Illinois’ 200th birthday. This ceremony, along with many others throughout the state, was video recorded and will be uploaded to the illinois200.com website for those who would like to view it.
Hardin County Illinois 200 Bicentennial Liaison, Rhonda Belford led the ceremony. She spoke a positive message about the importance of having the ceremony at the school in the presence of the students who are the present and future of the State of Illinois. She emphasized that the children are the ones who will serve to revive Illinois. Many of the younger audience reacted enthusiastically about the news of Illinois turning 200 in 2018.
