James Belt, 80, of Elizabethtown, IL passed away on October 20, 2017 at Hardin County General Hospital. James was born on June 28, 1937 to Wendell and Margaret Mary (Ohara) Belt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marcella (Hubbard) Belt; son, Mark Steven and Dawn Belt; daughter, Lora Ann and Ronald Blasko; grandchildren, Kyle and Melissa Brown, Brandon and Leanne Belt, Lauren and Trinity Doran, Rhea Blasko, and Danielle Blasko; great-grandchildren, Logan Belt; Ellie Belt, Cheyanne Belt, and Damien Belt; brother, Larry and Ellen Belt; sister, Phyllis and Charles Monroe; and sister, Teresia and Jim Walsh.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell Belt; mother, Margaret Mary (Ohara) Belt; his loving step-mother, Lorene (Belt) Gibson; step-father, Robert Gibson; and brother, Larry Belt.
James was a member of Calvary’s Promise Church in Shawneetown, IL. James studied at Hessville Nazareen Church in Hessville, Indiana for four years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from the age of 17 for four years, from 1954 thru 1959. His title was gunners mate 2nd class. He retired from Inland Steel after 30 years of service as a foreman in the #3 cold strip in East Chicago, Indiana. James loved studying the bible. He loved entertaining his family and friends, telling stories of his life, and doing magic tricks. He liked to watch western movies. He also liked to target practice and shoot his guns.
Hardin County Funeral Services, Cox Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. till funeral time. Burial will follow at Lavender Cemetery. Rev. Buddy Hubbard will officiate the services. The Paul C. Rowan American Legion Post #571 will be conducting military honors.
