James A. Highfill, 91 of Metropolis, IL, formerly of the St. Louis area, MO, and Rosiclare, IL, died, Tuesday, July 4, 2017. He was born on Saturday, December 12, 1925 in Commerce, OK, the son of the late James Otto and Bonnie (nee Fisher) Highfill. Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Fenton American Legion Post No.400 and the 40 et 8.
He is survived by his wife Wilma Jean Killian Highfill (nee Stacey); sons, Jack Highfill, Dennis (Judy) Highfill, Richard “Dick” (Joann) Wade, and Harry (June) Wade; daughters, Kitty (Don) Toliver and Tammy (Easton) Romer; brothers, Wilma Hedrick and W. O. “Slim” Highfill; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence G. Highfill (nee Stroup); son, Tom Wade; daughter-in-law, Kandice Highfill, and brother, Ray Highfill.
Shepard Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. A visitation was held Monday, July 10, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5200 Lucas & Hunt Road, Normandy, MO.
Jim Highfill, 91, of Rosiclare, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Southgate Nursing and Healthcare Center in Metropolis, IL. He was born December 25, 1925. He served in the United States Navy.
He was married to his first wife for 52 years. He was married to Wilma Killian Stacey Highfill for the last ten years of his life.
He had two sons, Jack Highfill of Rosiclare, IL and Dennis Highfill from Texas. He had five step-children. He outlived his family.
Services will be held in a private ceremony in St. Louis, MO at a later date. Military rites will be presented.
