Father Peter Hsu, 85, died at 8:08 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, in Herrin Hospital.
He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Jianyun, China, to John and Mary (Mei) Hsu.
He retired from active ministry in 1999. He was the pastor of the Royalton/Zeigler parish for 17 years.
He held mass on weekends at San Damiano Retreat Center in rural Golconda, IL in the for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
Surviving relatives include his niece, Han Dong-Yu of China and his great-niece, Han Liu of China.
Rite of reception was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Royalton. The visitation continued until 8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Royalton, with Bishop Edward Braxton, Monsignor Ken Schaefer, and Monsignor Thomas Flach officiating. Burial was held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Royalton.
Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic School in West Frankfort and/or to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church new school fund, Herrin.
