Ella Joyce Ceranic of Pinehurst passed on peacefully at First Health Hospice on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Born February 12, 1941 in Rosiclare, IL, she is the daughter of the late James and Lucy Joyce of Manteno, IL. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Thomas Ceranic, siblings Annie Bringelson of Harlingen, TX, and departed brother James P. Joyce of Toledo, OH.
A graduate of Southern Illinois University, she is also a retired employee of TWA and American Airlines, having been based in Chicago, Boston, St. Louis and San Francisco.
Employed by Trans World Airlines in 1964 as a stewardess, she enjoyed her work enthusiastically until retiring in 2006. She loved her work and it was obvious to all who worked on her flights. So much so, that she was voted flight attendant of the year by her peers. To quote one: “I was blessed by her beauty on so many memorable flights. I truly would feel my heart expand and my mouth turn into a grin as I boarded the aircraft for an adventure with Ella. We were so fortunate to have shared this earthly angel.”
Coincidentally, both she and her husband, a retired Pan Am pilot, were both hired by their respective airlines on the same day in 1964, she in Chicago and he in San Francisco. Married in 1972, each lived active lives in the San Francisco area for 33 years before retiring to the Pinehurst area in 1997. She will be missed by all who knew her. Heaven will never receive a more beautiful member. Not only was Ella beautiful to look at but her inner beauty always shined through along with her wonderful wit.
