Hirom M. “Mike” Stacey, 88, (DOB: 02/04/1928) passed away peacefully with his family at the Gainesville VA Hospital on November 13, 2016.
He Proudly Served his Country in both the Navy and the Army. During his military career he served in WWII, Korean, Vietnam as Sgt. First Class (Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)). He received a number of metals and commendations for his dedication to his Country. Thereafter, he was an instructor of ROTC and Military Science.
After his retirement from the Army, he was involved with research and manufacturing while employed with Martin-Marrietta. During his retirement, he was an active member and coordinator for opening several Moose Lodges and American Legions in the Florida area. He was a lifetime member of the AF & AM of Illinois (Mason Blue Lodge), Star in the East Lodge No 166, 32nd Degree Mason, Mooseheart, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aries 3496 (Orlando), Scottish Rite Masons (Orlando), AMVETS Post #422, VFW (Chiefland, FL), American Legion Post 383 (Old Town FL).
He is survived by his children Judy (Neil) Buterbaugh; Douglas (Connie) Stacey; Michael (Pat) Stacey; Donald (Monique) Stacey; Carol Pumphrey; Marilynne (Roger) Harrison; Debra (Erik) Smith and many grand and great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Patrica Stacey, preceded him in death.
Military with Honors Burial Service at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida was held on Friday, November 18, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Ceremony was held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at the American Legion Lodge 383, Old Town, Florida.
