Helen Suits, age 77, of Golconda, Illinois passed away November 23, 2016 in Rosiclare, Illinois. She was born September 13, 1939 to Clarence “Bog” Cosby and Lydia Swinford Cosby in Pope County, Illinois. She married Sherman Suits on June 23, 1956; he preceded her on July 22, 2004.
Helen worked in the Courthouse in the Assessor’s Office. In 1981 she was elected City Clerk of Golconda. She spent 20 years as City Clerk one of the longest serving Clerk’s in the city’s history. Helen loved Golconda and Pope County. She stayed involved in the Community activities and loved to have her afternoon coffee with “The Girls” at the Dari Barr each afternoon. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Golconda and was a past pianist and organist at the church. She later attended Church at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Golconda with her sons and their families.
Helen is survived by her sons and their wives, Jim and Karla Suits, Jerry and Kathy Suits all of Golconda; four grandchildren, Kara and Corby Hight of Grand Chain, IL, Eric and Brooke Suits of Stafford, Virginia, Brett and Kayla Suits of Metropolis, IL, Kristi and Brandon Bundren of Vienna, IL,; eight grandchildren with two on the way; and numerous friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one infant brother, Clarence Eugene Cosby.
Helen will be sadly missed by her family and her beloved Golconda.
Funeral service was held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Illinois. Brother Kevin Richerson conducted the service. Interment followed at IOOF Cemetery in Golconda, Illinois. Visitation was held from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
