Alexandra Wallace, the 16 old daughter of Jeremy and Tara Wallace, of Rosiclare, IL was crowned Miss Teen Illinois – IJM (International Junior Miss), in Chicago on February 7, 2016. In September, 2015, Alex was crowned Miss Marion Main Street which was a preliminary to the state pageant. By winning the preliminary pageant, Alex was able to choose whether she wanted to compete in the Miss Teen Illinois-America, Miss Teen Illinois-USA or Miss Teen Illinois-IJM state pageants. Alex chose to compete in the Miss Teen Illinois-IJM because of the opportunities for modeling, print work, and world competition in Paris.
On February 5, Alex traveled to Chicago to compete with girls throughout the state and region for the coveted title of Miss Teen Illinois-IJM. Friday, Alex had a full evening of registration and paperwork followed by a pajama party at 8:00 p.m. to get to know the other contestants.
On Saturday, February 6, Alex had rehearsals and individual interviews with judges. She turned in portfolios for academic achievement, volunteer service and an ad for the cover model competition. She also presented pictures for the photogenic category and competed in casual wear.
The preliminaries were held Saturday evening and Alex took the stage in Fun Fashion and Evening Wear. After Evening Wear, seven girls, including Alex, were given state finalist trophies. Other awards were also given. Alex won the Cover Girl competition and received a trophy for her ad regarding IJM-I “Just Might Help End Heart Disease”. She also won the Academic Achievement and Volunteer Service awards and received trophies for both. She won 1st place in Photogenic and 1st place in Casual Wear and received two medals. Alex was crowned the Just Stunning Model for the combined scores from the Photogenic and Casual Wear categories and received a crown, sash, rhinestone pin, trophy and a cash prize.
On Sunday, February 7, Alex had rehearsals for an opening dance number and took the stage at noon with the finalists to dance. She then changed into her evening gown for the crowning. The judging for Miss Teen Illinois was divided into 30% for Fun Fashion, 30% for Evening Gown, 30% for Interview, and 10% for Community Service. Five contestants were given trophies and flowers for runner up placements and the two remaining contestants were asked to come to the front of the stage. As Alexandra and Magielena McFarlane from Chicago, Illinois, held each other’s hands and waited for the winner to be announced, Alex’s friends and family waited with nervousness and excitement. Finally, the emcee announced that Magielena McFarlane was 1st runner up and the new Miss Teen Illinois-IJM was Alexandra Wallace!
Alexandra’s prize package for winning Miss Teen Illinois-IJM included a custom rhinestone and pearl crown, satin IJM sash, cash scholarship, a paid entry fee for the pageant which will be held in Virginia Beach, VA, trophy, bouquet of flowers, rhinestone crown pin, wardrobe gift certificate, IJM tote bag, crown case, autograph prints for distribution at appearances, crown and banner photo shoot, bling slippers, Kathy Whittaker photo shoot, royalty gift package, “Disney on Ice” tickets, Viscose Turband, a year of pageant coaching, Marc Defang custom shoes, and a publicist for a year who will help her with sponsorship development, monthly appearance bookings, brand development and media relations. Alex will represent Illinois and compete in Virginia Beach, Virginia, from July 18 – July 23, 2016. This competition will be nationally televised so that Alex’s beloved Hardin County family and friends can root her on from the comforts of home!
