Hubert Eugene “Gene” Walker, age 67, of Metropolis, Illinois passed away December 17, 2015 at his residence with his loved ones by his side. He was born on March 19, 1948 to the late Galen and Louise (Fields) Walker in rural Cave In Rock, Illinois. He served in the United States ARMY and was a Korean War Veteran. He was Chief Deputy for Hardin County Sherriff’s Office for five years and was an over the road, owner operator of trucking for 35 years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ in Metropolis, IL. Gene loved fishing, hunting and mostly aggravating and spending time with his family whom he loved so much, and Britches his dog. Gene is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jeanette Walker of Metropolis, IL; one son, Jeff Walker of Lincoln, IL; three daughters, Vanessa (Richard) Vaughn of Metropolis, IL, Serena Long of DuQuoin, IL, Evelyn (Calvin) Landis of DuQuoin, IL; one brother, David Earl (Nancy) Walker of Equality, IL; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a very special gal, Lisa Terry. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at the Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Bro. Harold Miller conducted the service. Military rites were conducted by the American Legion Paul C Rowan Post 571 and interment followed the service at the Rose Cemetery in Elizabethtown, IL.
