July 12, 1920 – October 21, 2015 — Glenn W. Gintert, age 95, of Crown Point, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Glenn is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years: Roberta, known as “Grandma Bobbie”; loving daughter: Linda (Greg) Armstrong of Crown Point, IN; and four grandchildren. All will miss sharing their love, lives and stories over special Sunday meals with “Grandpa Glenn”. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde E. and Ethel M. Gintert of Karbers Ridge, IL; daughter, Nancy A. Gintert; and son, Glenn R. Gintert. Glenn owned and operated Wilco Foods for 50 years – with locations in Miller, Lowell, Cedar Lake, Rensselaer and Crown Point, Indiana, in addition to a 25 year career with the Kroger Company. He was an accomplished businessman who had a unique ability to balance his strong work ethic with great caring and genuine appreciation for the hard work of others. During his business career, Glenn served on board of directors for Central Grocers, the Advisory Board of Bank of Indiana, was a member of the Exchange Club in Miller, IN and was a Orak Shriner for 50 years. Glenn proudly served his country during WWII from 1942-1945 with the U.S. Army – Company B – 8th Armored Infantry Battalion, 20th Armored Division in Europe. In 1988 Glenn’s Company received special recognition from the Veterans Memorial Committee for their participation in the liberation of Dachau. Just this year, Glenn was thrilled to lead the welcome home parade at Midway Airport for “Honor Flight Chicago”. Friends visited with the family on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave./South St., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The memorial service was at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Cory Wielert officiated the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to: The Crown Point Community Foundation or to Lutheran Life Communities Foundation.
