On Friday, May 1st, six Hardin County students traveled to Southeastern Illinois College to compete in SIC’s first High School Invitational Archery Tournament. Those who competed were: Alli Armstrong, Dalton Conn, Hunter Cullum, John Rose Luke Seiner, and Colton Winters. This tournament was a chance for the SIC archery coaches to preview the area high school talent. The college’s 15 target course consisted of large and small 3D game animals at a maximum of 40 yards. The distances were unknown to the students so they had to estimate their yardages before making their shots. Hardin County came away with 1st place as a team out of the five schools that competed. Hardin County also had individual winners with Alli Armstrong taking 1st place in the women’s division and Dalton Conn winning 3rd place in the men’s division. This is quite an accomplishment for a school that does not have an official archery team. SIC’s archery team members have earned eight national championships and 12 All-Americans in the past three years. Alli Armstrong will be attending SIC in the fall and will be a member of SIC’s archery team.
