The yellow lady slipper is found in Hardin County in select locations. This picture was taken by Noel E. Hurford, former owner/publisher of the Independent, the 1990s.
The lady slipper blooms usually in late April to early May. Hurford and his wife, Betty, knew of only a few places in Hardin County where the flowers grew in small bunches. They hiked through the woods each spring to check on the plants, and they reserved their knowledge of the locations to keep people from digging them up and taking them home with them.
